Most 5k events call for some sort of timing involved for the participants. It may seem easy to do with only a couple people, but once you have a sizeable amount of participants for your event it is hard to keep it altogether and organized. An option that many organizers take on is outsourcing their timing by renting services from people who have this kind of equipment and expertise. This would be a part of the Paid Staff that you would work with if you chose this option. These timers have expertise in working with 5k events as well, so any detailed questions that this website doesn’t answer they may be able to help with.
